[Abstract]
This dissertation aims to identify the domains through which blockchain technology can potentially contribute to development, understand its impact, and systematically collect examples that illustrate this potential. I have chosen to first define blockchain technology and make known its functionality, context, and evolution over the past decades.
It was proposed for this dissertation to survey, through existing secondary sources, the applications and possible potentials of blockchain technology in the financial, legal, and humanitarian domains.
It was concluded that the potential of blockchain technology in different domains is enormous and that it is already being used, not only by financial institutions, but also by non-profit organizations, governmental organizations, and private entities. It was also concluded that in any of the areas discussed, the growth in the use of this technology is due to the need for transparency, efficiency, and the fight against corruption.
